Weekly Reflection 4

This week most of the pupils tasks are due. However, Google Classroom allows to keep track of which pupils have accepted your invitation to your class group and who has accepted and submitted work. Thus far engagement has been very low, only three third years have engaged and three second years. The quality of work differs greatly between pupils, some putting in great effort and research whilst others are barely attempting to complete the task. It is also interesting to see how the pupils who are engaged are using the technology. About 1 in 3 are doing their work by hand and submitting photographs, whilst the other work directly through Google Classroom. A few teachers operated through this platform previously, so pupils are aware of how to utilise it, but each pupil has their preference of how to work. I have let the pupils know that all work is accepted, and even through email if they cannot mange the Google Classroom platform. My group of fourth years happens to be the module (they completed music before swapping over to art in January), engagement with this group in none existent. Less than half the class has accepted their invitation to join the group. However, when compared to the schools working document of engagement, the year as a whole has been un-engaged across all subjects. After discussing this with my co-operating teacher we agreed to create on fourth year group and the same tasks for everyone, including the same deadlines. This improved engagement with regards to the pupils that overlap both classes. Perhaps previously they felt overwhelmed at all the work being assigned. Seeing as the lock-down looks set to last after the Easter break, my co-op and myself have decided to move on from their current studio projects (as they are unable to access the current practical work in school) and begin new dynamic and engaging projects. Next week I am setting a photography project for my second and fourth years, they will be tasked with capturing what their current situation is like for them. Before this I will set a research task for the pupils to begin exploring the discipline of photography and allow the pupils to collect their photographs during the Easter break.

3D Mixed Media Sculpture & Preparatory Work 28.02.19

28/02/19 Workshop 6 3D Mixed Media Sculpture  & Preparatory Work At the start of the 3D mixed media sculpture I struggled with the entail concept when a bag of miscellaneous objects where placed in front of me to sketch. I began exploring a few of the object such as a computer hard drive, a wooden shoe, a trumpet and various piece of metal.   As I was struggling to conceptualise my design I turned to card and start to experiment with shape. In my under graduate model making was required with every design, thus card and cardboard are very familiar materials to me. I began by exploring various shapes and how they might interact with each other.  As I was trying to make my objects support themselves, I came up with the idea of a gravity defying piece. If the observer sees the structure I wanted them to question how is it being supported. I wanted the piece to be comprised of many different materials and geometric shapes to emphasis the structure and allow...
