Weekly Reflection 3

This has been the first week teaching through the online platform Google Classroom. It will be interesting to see how the pupils begin to engage. It was made clear by the principle that we are to set obtainable goals that the pupils  an complete at home, and that their engagement is up to them and their parents. The school has created a working document to track which pupils are engaging, as several pupils will not have access to technology from home or even have Wi-Fi to connect to Google Classroom. This is quite a sad reality for a lot of the pupils in my school and during this time I am sure will be very hard for several families. Fortunately, the school has access to two home liaison officers to help assist these families and ensure that these pupils have access to their school work. To begin this week I set research projects for all my classes that related to their current studio work. I gave the pupils more time than usual as none of us will be completing a ‘normal day’ during the lock-down. Allowing the pupils extra time will ease the pressure and uncertainly in these worrying times. I have been in constant contact with my co-operating teacher, who has been a wonderful support during this transition to online teaching. We have scheduled a meeting in the coming weeks to discuss how to move forward if the lock-down continues. It is very important to remain in contact with my co-op to ensure no pupils are left out or fall behind.

3D Mixed Media Sculpture & Preparatory Work 28.02.19

28/02/19 Workshop 6 3D Mixed Media Sculpture  & Preparatory Work At the start of the 3D mixed media sculpture I struggled with the entail concept when a bag of miscellaneous objects where placed in front of me to sketch. I began exploring a few of the object such as a computer hard drive, a wooden shoe, a trumpet and various piece of metal.   As I was struggling to conceptualise my design I turned to card and start to experiment with shape. In my under graduate model making was required with every design, thus card and cardboard are very familiar materials to me. I began by exploring various shapes and how they might interact with each other.  As I was trying to make my objects support themselves, I came up with the idea of a gravity defying piece. If the observer sees the structure I wanted them to question how is it being supported. I wanted the piece to be comprised of many different materials and geometric shapes to emphasis the structure and allow...
