My School took the decision on
Thursday the 12th of March to close our school at 1.00, which was
lunch time, in response to the Taoiseach’s speech on Covid19. We had a brief
assembly, were the principal let the pupils and staff aware of what was going
on. I had just finished a double with my second years before this assembly and
pupils were scared and excited at the fact that they got to leave school early.
We had a staff meeting after all the pupils went home as discussed how we would
use Google Classroom as a platform for giving the pupils work to complete
whilst in isolation. The principal made it clear that we must supply work and
that it is up to the pupils and their parents to engage. After this we had
department meetings, at which we discuss how to move forward in our subject
under the given circumstances. We agreed to give the 1st, 2nd,
and 4th years research and task based exercises to help engage the
pupils. Myself and Ms M decided the right course for the 3rd years
would be for them to research their artists in great depth for their influence
sheet and begin exploring ideas for their craft option. I am very interested to
see how the pupils will engage with this platform, and it must be noted that
not all my pupils have access to the internet of a computer at home. How will
these pupils be effected by this? And how long with this go on for?
28/02/19 Workshop 6 3D Mixed Media Sculpture & Preparatory Work At the start of the 3D mixed media sculpture I struggled with the entail concept when a bag of miscellaneous objects where placed in front of me to sketch. I began exploring a few of the object such as a computer hard drive, a wooden shoe, a trumpet and various piece of metal. As I was struggling to conceptualise my design I turned to card and start to experiment with shape. In my under graduate model making was required with every design, thus card and cardboard are very familiar materials to me. I began by exploring various shapes and how they might interact with each other. As I was trying to make my objects support themselves, I came up with the idea of a gravity defying piece. If the observer sees the structure I wanted them to question how is it being supported. I wanted the piece to be comprised of many different materials and geometric shapes to emphasis the structure and allow...
