Weekly Reflection 06.03.20
Friday the
06.03.20 was my fourth and final inspection, to say I was revealed is an
understatement. My inspector drew my attention to the following areas, the
theme could have been explored further and deeper with more analysis around
imagery and link to their own current theme. The units of learning need more
detail and more links to the discipline. I included my questions in the
literacy and numeracy section of my lesson plan (LP), however it was suggested
I add more prompting questions to the introduction section, I think this is a
great idea as I do normally ask more questions when prompting them and this way
I won’t leave anything out or forget to mention something. It was mentioned
that group work could have been incorporated to the artwork analysis, now they
do engage with group work analysis, however I wanted them to analyse aloud to
maintain their engagement, as conversation tends to wonder when this group
engages in group work. However, moving forward this is an area I can work on
with this group and create more structure to the group work in order to keep
them on task and engaged. Having questions for each group member to answer or
assigning roles may help the pupils maintain engagement. The last thing
mentioned was the closure of the lesson, I must be more aware of what
indicators I give to the pupils for the end of the lesson. As pupils begin to
move and place their bags on their backs before having cleaned their work
stations. I also had time for a short evaluation of the work that pupils did
complete in the class and this would have created a nice end to the lesson.
Other things mentioned was my LP’s have improved since the inspectors last
visit and the lecture content can clearly be seen. Moving forward I will focus
on the areas mentioned above to improve my teaching and the pupils overall
learning experience.
Topics covered in college this week, the
collaborative seminar looked in pupils wellbeing and explored topics of how to
engage pupils who are introverted in class and who is an at risk child. Our
group came up with the following, communication is key. Communication between
the pupil and their teacher is key, the pupil should make the teachers aware if
anything at home happens and the teachers should be checking in. Ways to engage
the pupil in question would be to engage them in topics they are interested in,
perhaps use it as a theme so the pupil can be the expert in the group and
showcase their knowledge. Group work, was agreed by my group would be key in
engaging the pupil with their peers. Small groups would work best with
designated roles for each member, so no one will be left out. There is also a
window for cross curricular here with the pupil from the scenario given. The
pupils in question has a strong draw to music, other teachers could focus in on
this and incorporate it into their class. For example in art, it could as
simple as playing music whilst the pupils work to put the pupil as ease.
