Lesson Plan 5

Note: Due to the closure of the school on the 12.03.20 at 1.30 in response to the current outbreak of COVID19, all schools are closed until the 29.03.20. Under instruction from the school principal tasks must be uploaded for your individual class on the platform Google Classroom. With the understanding that this is a practical subject, the visual department agreed to set research tasks that help the pupils current practical work. Some practical work will be required and this will be submitted by uploading photographs of the work.
Second Years
Level: Common
Date: 19.03.20
Due Date: 24.03.20
Discipline: Painting and research
Learning Outcomes:
1.3 critique an artwork using critical and visual language.
1.7 examine the method of a number of artists and the artwork they created.
1.10 identify the use of art elements and design principles within an artwork.
1.13 identify media which are used to create artwork.
Learning Intensions:
Pupils will be tasked with researching an artist that has inspired their current ongoing studio work. Pupils will be given questions to help guide their research. Pupils must upload their document to Google Classroom by the 24th of March.
Success Criteria:
Through Google Classroom pupils will receive a brief with a series of questions to help guide their research to find an artist that inspires their work. Pupils must keep in mind their current studio project, creating paintings on canvas under the theme Our Waters. Pupils must submitted by the deadline stated.
Resources/Health & Safety:
An online guide of the art elements and design principles will be attached to help the pupils with their analysis of their chosen artwork:
Literacy & Numeracy:
Pupils will be asked a series of both higher and lower order questions to help guide their research, refer to brief for questions.
Differentiation:
Due to the usual circumstances the pupils will be provided with more time than usual to complete a research task (the equivalent of three classes). This is due to not all pupils having internet access or home PC’s. The brief will be broken down into sections so all pupils can understand what is being asked of them. Pupils may also email me within the school’s opening hours, 8.50am to 3.30pm, and Wednesday’s from 8.50am to 1.00pm.
Brief:
Hi ladies,
Over the next week I would like ye to do the following:
Select an artist that has looked at a similar theme to us (Our Waters) or an artist that has influenced your work.
You must state:
1) The artists name
2) What movement they were a part of? (for example, Edgar Degas was part of the impressionists movement)
3) Where the artist is from
4) The date of the painting or artwork you have chosen
5) The title
6) What materials or mediums were used?
7) And most importantly why you chose this artist and this artwork?
Here's some questions to help with your write up:
- How does this artwork inspire you?
- What art elements can you see? (

- What design principals can you see? (
https://theartofeducation.edu/2015/12/24/3-helpful-elements-and-principles-downloads/)
- What colours are used?
- What is the artist message and how have they portrayed this? Is it through imagery, or use of colour? Or perhaps symbolism?
Remember if you have any questions just email me during school hours,
nicola.stavrou@urscorkb.com, and you can submit your research here or email it directly to me.
Development:
It was made clear in our staff meeting that took place once all pupils had left on the 12.03.20 at 1.30pm, that we must given pupils work through the platform Google Classroom. The work is to be to the pupils current academic standard and follow on from their current class work. It was made clear that it is up to the pupils and the parents to engage with the online forum once the work has been given. This will engage the pupils in self-lead learning.

3D Mixed Media Sculpture & Preparatory Work 28.02.19

28/02/19 Workshop 6 3D Mixed Media Sculpture  & Preparatory Work At the start of the 3D mixed media sculpture I struggled with the entail concept when a bag of miscellaneous objects where placed in front of me to sketch. I began exploring a few of the object such as a computer hard drive, a wooden shoe, a trumpet and various piece of metal.   As I was struggling to conceptualise my design I turned to card and start to experiment with shape. In my under graduate model making was required with every design, thus card and cardboard are very familiar materials to me. I began by exploring various shapes and how they might interact with each other.  As I was trying to make my objects support themselves, I came up with the idea of a gravity defying piece. If the observer sees the structure I wanted them to question how is it being supported. I wanted the piece to be comprised of many different materials and geometric shapes to emphasis the structure and allow...
