Learning Intensions:
Pupils will recap
on colour theory and mix the paint and colour needed for them to begin painting
on their canvas. As a whole class group pupils will analyse and critique the
work of Irish artist Donna McGee. The teacher will prompt the pupils with
questions to aid analysis.
Success Criteria:
Pupils will
discuss the painting ‘Cliffs of Moher’ by painter Donna McGee. Pupils will
recap on colour theory and begin creating sample samples for their final
design.
Resources/Health &
Safety:
Poster,
acrylic and water colour paints. Basin of water, pallets, and paint brushes.
All pupils will be instructed to roll up their sleeves to ensure to protect
their uniforms and tie up their hair.
Literacy &
Numeracy:
Pupils will
analyse and critique the work of Donna Mc Gee. The teacher will aid the
discussion by asking the following questions:

Do you recognise this place?
·
Where is it?
·
What medium do you think the
artist has used?
·
What painting techniques might the
artist have used?
·
Do you like the image? Why or why
not?
Pupils will
also recap on colour theory before mixing their paints.
Differentiation:
Handouts
will be available to all pupils, they will all analyse and critique the
painting on the handout, to ensure no one is distracted by other work or their
sketchpads.
Method:
Introduction:
I will
introduce the pupils to the painting the ‘Cliffs of Moher’, by Donna McGee. I
will prompt the pupils with questions (see literacy section above). I will call
on pupils to recap on colour theory, before pupils return to developing their
compositions and create their paints
needed to begin working on their canvas’.
Development:
Using the
RECAP techniques to rejog the pupils memories on colour theory. RECAP; R: read and recall, E: engage in discussion,
A: apply what is learnt, P:progress and performance. Visual Thinking Strategy (VTS) when
analysing and critiquing McGee’s work.
Summery/Revision/Conclusion:
Tidy up will
begin at 9.25. All pupils will place any wet work on the window sill to dry,
sketchbooks will be placed on the trolly, along with all paints, dirty brushes,
paint palettes, and cups will be placed in the water basin. Any pupils who wish
to keep their paints will wrap them up for the next class.
