Third Years 24.09.18

24/09/18
The class is divided into two groups one group is starting life drawing with Ms S and the second group is starting life drawing (they swapped from the previous two weeks). I was not prepared to introduce the class to life so I decided to start them off with gesture drawings , like I did with the second years in the previous class. The pupils were reluctant to start, as they expressed their disinterest of the subject, telling me it was their second and third choice in first year. I started them off with a 30 second drawing and finished with a 15 minute drawing. The pupils eventually got into it and I rotated to models for every second pose so that all could have a chance to experience it.
This time unlike the second years I gave them a brief breakdown of how to measure the body (when they did the longer pose). I showed them the monocular way and the measuring off the room. Most of them tired the monocular way but didn’t stick to it. Some of the pupils lost interest and stopped drawing so I decided to stop and get everyone to put their drawings on the floor for us to look at. Some the pupils were reluctant, but I assured them that we would only give positive critiques. Once the drawings where all down they could see that they had a likeness to each other. I pointed out that is was the point of gesture drawing was to get them into drawing people again and that these are not meant to be prefect drawings. After the class I feel the pupils enjoyed the exercise, even if at first they were reluctant.

3D Mixed Media Sculpture & Preparatory Work 28.02.19

28/02/19 Workshop 6 3D Mixed Media Sculpture  & Preparatory Work At the start of the 3D mixed media sculpture I struggled with the entail concept when a bag of miscellaneous objects where placed in front of me to sketch. I began exploring a few of the object such as a computer hard drive, a wooden shoe, a trumpet and various piece of metal.   As I was struggling to conceptualise my design I turned to card and start to experiment with shape. In my under graduate model making was required with every design, thus card and cardboard are very familiar materials to me. I began by exploring various shapes and how they might interact with each other.  As I was trying to make my objects support themselves, I came up with the idea of a gravity defying piece. If the observer sees the structure I wanted them to question how is it being supported. I wanted the piece to be comprised of many different materials and geometric shapes to emphasis the structure and allow...
