Third Years 03.09.18

03/09/18
The class on Friday the 31st of August (college orientation for me) got a detailed breakdown of the junior cert, as this is what they will be achieving this year. This will be the last year group to complete to old Junior Cert.
The breakdown consists of:
1.       Graphic Design (painting/poster)
2.       3D- clay, cardboard, wire, etc.
3.       Option: batik, weaving, packaging, lino, and so on.
Each of the above will have a preparatory sheet,
The graphic design will have its own support sheet, whilst the other two will share.
4.       Drawing Exam is the last aspect for the group to complete.
The class was well behaved and attentive, the class seemed focused and had a sense of pride in their work as their only questions at the end was if they could take home their second year work from the previous year.
The teacher again showed the same two samples of the junior cert as shown to the second years. She went through a rough timeline and reassured the class that with enough effort it will be all finished and completed in time (even though it was expressed its not enough time by the teacher). This however was followed by one example of the leaving cert. This grabbed the girls attention, it was a fantastic project with great colour, texture and imagination.
I think this was used to show the pupils what is obtainable if they too kept it on for the leaving cert. Now this may also scare a few as they may feel its not obtainable, but none of the class expressed this, and they were an interactive class.
I had first, second, and third years in that order this day, and the difference in behaviour that I noticed was:
The first years where excitable. This was their first class on Monday morning, it is only being sampled so not too many in the class were genuinely interested. There was chat but the teacher addressed this and the girls were quite. The chatting would spark up from time to time but as said above they were excited.
The second years were attentive and listened well. The girls seemed interested and ready to get started. There was minimal to no disruptions.
The third years where extremely excited to be back into the art room. They wanted to see all the work and get to take their work home to show everyone. However half the class didn’t have this art teacher as they were out sick when the switch over of groups happened, so you could see the divide in the their attention and apprehension toward the teacher, almost stand offish. Now the teacher wants to take that group first in a bid to get to know them better and build the same realtionship.
